I sat in the car as we came into sight of the lake. I had been told how magnificent it was, but even so, I was amazed. The huge body of water stretched on till the horizon, and the mountains that surrounded it were stunning. I could see the little villages getting closer and closer as we turned into the road that led into the lake. I couldn't get over the beauty of this vast body of water. It truly was stunning.
We rolled up into the parking lot of the hotel and we got out of the car. We walked into the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, where we would be staying. We checked in to our room. I loved the room. It was painted mainly green, and was styled in a very Renaissance way. It was very nice.
We had decided Day 1 of Lake Como was about chilling out. I changed into my bathers and headed down to the pool. The pool was floating on the lake! So, as I was swimming, the pool was tilting back and forth! It was sooooooooo cool!
When I hopped back out of the pool, I ran back to my mum and dad. They were sipping drinks, chatting away in front of the breath taking and picturesque scenery of Lake Como. The sun lounge they were lying on were on a manmade beach! So I sat on the sand and built a sandcastle in between my swimming time. I thoroughly enjoyed the day.
After I had finished in the pool, we headed to the fancy restaurant of The Tremezzo that served authentic Italian food. Since we learnt so much about Risk Taking from school, I thought I would order something different for a change. I ordered 'Summer Truffle Penne' for my entrée which is something I have never tried before and 'Eye Fillet Steak with Vegetables' for my main course - something on the safe side, just in case... The actual pasta tasted really good but I didn't like the taste of truffle that much. I much prefer simple Spag Bog or Penne Arabiata. However, my steak was beautifully done. The flavor was just fabulous.
Day 2 of Lake Como would be a hiking day. That was definitely true. We hiked for eight hours. We hiked through a couple of botanical gardens of Lake Como such as Villa Carlotta and Villa Melzi D'Eril. They are huge, beautiful, well kept and Villa Carlotta even has a man made rain forest in it. We saw many gorgeous villages. We saw the houses and we saw the mountains. We saw the shops and we saw the villas. I doubt there was anything we didn't see.
By the time we reached the hotel again, our feet were ready to shut off. They were sore. It had been a very enjoyable day though. I really had liked it.
After dinner, we explored the hotels huge garden. There were 4 pools in the hotel and a very decorative fountain, and also a panoramic walk. It was really pretty.
We cruised through Day 3 in Lake Como. We walked to the dock after our sumptuous breakfast, and the boat operator helped us onto the speedboat. We have chartered a private boat to tour around Lake Como. The operator started the engine, and we sped off into the core of the lake.
The first thing we saw was an area of land that jutted out into the massive lake. It had a huge mansion in it, and it was where James Bond, Casino Royale had been filmed. It was very beautiful. The huge building was like a castle, with the turrets and the arches and even the vast gardens. The trees were trimmed to perfection and the mansion was just, amazing. The whole garden was a true bona fide masterpiece dominated by an elegant loggia.
We sped along and we reached a forest. This forest had a few huge mansions in it, and that was because Richard Branson, the CEO of Virgin Airlines, owned a huge part of the picturesque wilderness and came here for holidays. The only way to get around it was by boat or foot. It was a luscious green paradise that faced the mesmerizing waters of the lake.
Rumbling and bumping along on the azure blue water, we reached the only island in the lake. It was mainly a wild and uninhabited island, but there was a big restaurant and it was set among trees and other plants. It was very ideallic.
We saw many beautiful villages in the boat tour such as Bellagio, Menaggio, Lenno, Sala Comacina, Argegno to name a few. Personally, I like Bellagio the most. It's the most famous village in Lake Como. The architecture was wonderful. It was all painted with a sunset orange tone. I particularly liked the winding stairways lined with shops selling silk and other trinkets.
Finally, we headed back to the hotel. I hopped off the boat and looked forward to another afternoon of swimming and sandcastle making.
